Inscription.

Night of the Broken Glass," was a Nazi instigated violent attack against Jews on November 9-10, 1938, in Germany and Austria. Thousands of Jewish homes and synagogues were ransacked and burned, as were shops, towns and villages. Thousands of Jews were arrested, brutally beaten, publicly humiliated and sent to concentration camps. After this night of terror, life for the Jews became even more unbearable, Jews were barred from most professions, expelled from schools and from public places. They were forced to carry identification and wear a yellow star on their clothes, excluding them from German economic and social life. This moment marked the beginning of an era of persecution and extermination. The ultimate Nazi goal was the removal of all Jews from Germany. By early 1939, panic engulfed the Jews and a mass exodus ensued towards any country that would receive them. Tragically, with the rapid conquest of Europe by the Nazis, many Jews were trapped under Nazi control.
