1. Our Confederate Dead Monument
Inscription. (Marker at the bottom of the Burial Mound)
This monument is dedicated to these southern soldiers who died in the Wilson Confederate Hospital during the war between the States – 1861 – 1865. Extensive research of all available records leads us to believe that these men lie here, beneath the ground of this sacred burial mound. Instilled with the same fire and reverence for freedom that their grandfathers held when they fought the British during the American Revolution. These soldiers gave their lives in defense of their country, homes and firesides. Day by day, through agonizing pain and disparaging loneliness, their spirits held strong in the belief that their cause was just and true for them. Their families and their future descendants, to these fallen heroes we offer up our affection, reverence and undying devotion for their unselfish sacrifices.
