1. Cottonwood Marker
Inscription. A large tree when mature; the bark is corky, thick, deeply furrowed with sharp, interlacing ridges. It is often regarded as the fastest growing tree species native to the United States. Legend has that Native Americans discovered the tepee design by twisting the leaf into a cone.
