Pressure To Change
Storybook Trail
Starting about 350 million years ago, these mountains were being shaped by movements deep within the earth's crust. The pressure was intense. Loose sands were tightly compacted and cemented; buried rock was compressed, folded, buckled and fractured.
Evidence of this movement can be seen in rock outcroppings and road cuts.
Erected by Forest Service US Department of Agriculture.
