History in Connecticut
From the 1700s to the 1900s, deer were extensively hunted and also suffered from habitat alteration. By 1906, deer were uncommon in the state. As family farms gave way to suburbs and managed forests, deer populations rebounded and flourished.

Deer have overpopulated Fairfield County and there is concern that they are creating additional environmental issues.

Erected by Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo.
