Gli scarsi resti marmorei con decorazione a palmette appartengono ad un monumento, il Miliarium Aureum, eretto da Augusto quando, nel 20 a.C, divenne responsabile delle strade (curator viarum): esso era costituito da una grande colonna (diam. m.1,20), su cui erano scritte a caratteri d'oro le distanze tra Roma e le province dell'impero, calcolate in miglia a partire dalle porte delle Mura Serviane.

English:
The scarce marble remains with a palmette decoration belong to a monument known as the Miliarium Aureum, erected by Augustus in 20 BC when he became the caretaker of roads (curator viarum): it consisted of a large column (diam. 1.20m), on which the distances between Rome and the provinces of the Empire calculated in miles from the gates in the Servian Walls were marked in gold letters.
