Excerpt (in translation): August Ziegler, Dr. and Economic Councilor (October 22, 1885 in Marktbreit ; † March 3 , 1937 in Würzburg) was a German oenologist.

Ziegler studied agriculture and chemistry in Munich. Here he joined the Corps Saxo-Thuringia. After graduating, he worked as an agricultural expert in Togo, having specialized in plant breeding.

From 1921 he was head of the main office for vine breeding in the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture in Würzburg. During this time he played a key role in the refinement of the Müller-Thurgau vine and bred the Rieslaner grape variety,
