The Orphans' Schoolhouse Captain Webb Hall
Captain Webb Hall, formerly the Orphans' Schoolhouse, is named in honor of one of the leading figures of Methodism in America. Captain Thomas Webb (1725-1794) served as an officer with Braddock's Army on these grounds in the campaign of 1755.
Back in England in 1765, he was converted by John Wesley's preaching and later commissioned as a local preacher by Wesley. He returned to America in 1766 and became widely known as one of the most eloquent preachers in America and one of the most important figures in the planting of Methodism in the colonies.
