A fonte de S. Pedro (que um painel de azulejos reproduz, a partir do único registo fotográfico conhecido, do primeiro quartel do séc. XX) foi substituida pelo actual fontanário na função de abastecer de água a Rua Direita e o centro histórico.

Da primitiva fonte conserva a memórìa popular algumas lendas, associadas à fertilidade. Diz uma delas que as senhoras que tivessem dificuldade em, engravidar ("alcançar”, na linguagem popular) deveriam sentar-se numa pedra furada que aqui existiu...

(English translation:)

The S. Pedro fountain (which a tile panel reproduces, based on the only known photographic record, from the first quarter of the 20th century) was replaced by the current fountain in the role of supplying water to Rua Direita and the historic center.

The popular memory of the original source preserves some legends associated with fertility. One of them says that women who had difficulty getting pregnant ("achieving", in popular language) should sit on a certain stone with a hole that existed here...
