Leverington Cemetery
Founded 1745
Originally the 1690's farm of Wigard Levering, pioneering settler of land granted to William Penn in 1681. After 1744 it was known as the "Roxborough Burial Ground." In 1857, it was incorporated as the Leverington Cemetery Company.
Within these hallowed grounds lie many early permanent settlers of Roxborough, including the Levering family, seventeen Virginia Patriots massacred in Roxborough during the American Revolution, many Civil War soldiers and numerous ordinary people who did extraordinary things.
