Inscription. Flowing 117 miles from its headwaters in New York, French Creek is a beautiful waterway, treasured for its incredible biodiversity. Biodiversity means there are a lot of different types of plants and animals found within the creek.

What lives in French Creek?
The watershed hosts 27 species of Freshwater Mussels.
Over 80 species of fish-including 15 species of Darters.
And a healthy population of Eastern Hellbender Salamanders-Pennsylvania's State Amphibian.

Little Sugar Creek Sub-basin
French Creek is fed by 10 major tributaries that have their own drainage areas (or watersheds) and flow into French Creek. These tributary watersheds or sub-basins are very important to the water quality and health of French Creek, because what happens on the land around French Creek affects the water quality. The closest sub-basin to this location is Little Sugar Creek, which flows 12 miles south from the Guys Mills area and enters French Creek at Cochranton. The entire Little Sugar Creek sub-basin is classified as a cold water fishery supporting 15 species of fish and six species of freshwater mussels. Mud Run, a tributary of Little Sugar Creek, is one of two streams that were dammed to form Tamarack Lake.
