Inscription.

The denomination "Aterro" (embankment), including the Aterro Beach, for the area located on the north side of Boa Nova comes from the embankment that was created here with earth from the digging and dredging of the Leça river mouth and estuary, as needed by the construction works of the Dock nº1 first Leixões harbour. This landfill developed between 1932 e 1940. The embankment smoothed the rugged seaside between Boa Nova and Cabo do Mundo and allowed the construction of a large seaside avenue extending the bathing area of Leça da Palmeira to the north. This avenue was an old project, already referenced in 1861, and was never totally finished. The seaside promenade should have linked Leça da Palmeira to Vila do Conde and Póvoa de Varzim.
