Jake's Skatepark
Jake Owens was a sports enthusiast, who fell in love with skateboarding when he saw his first X-Games at the age of three. Since then, he was determined to learn how to skateboard and took to the streets of South Baltimore to master the sport like his newfound idols. He practiced different tricks at a skatepark and never failed to get back up, no matter how many times he fell.
In 2011, five-year old Jake was killed by a cell phone distracted driver, leading to the passage of Jake's Law, which penalizes those who cause a serious accident due to cell phone distracted driving with a $5000 fine and a year in prison. Neighbors of Rash Field Park and the South Baltimore community wanted to honor Jake's life, his love of skateboarding and his tenacity for the sport by helping to raise funds for this skatepark, which provides a great space for other young skateboarding enthusiasts to follow their passion.
Erected by Neighbors of Rash Field Park and the South Baltimore Community.
