1. Garrett County Road Workers' Strike Marker
Inscription. On April 7, 1970, 139 employees of the Garrett County Roads Department went on strike asking the Garrett County Commissioners to recognize their affiliation with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). After months of active involvement by citizens, including members of the clergy and political leaders, the strike was settled on November 19, 197. It was the longest public worker strike in U.S. history.
