1. Hawkwood Mansion Marker

Inscription. This fireplace remains a mystery. Why was it placed here, 3/4 mile from the mansion? When was it built? Was it connected to a building at one time? No one who has lived on the property and who is still alive today remembers anything other than this free-standing fireplace. Although at a glance towards the top of the structure, it looks like something may well have been attached up there, no evidence of any building was ever found in the archeological digs conducted by the Town of Ballston in 2016 in this area. Sometimes, history doesn't give us all the answers.
