1. Hordeum vulgare Marker
Inscription. Barley is believed to be the first grain used for fermenting into beer. Due to its high levels of starch-converting enzymes and its tolerance of drought, cold, and poor soil conditions, barley is considered to be a distiller's "best friend". It is also used to make commercial malt extracts.
