Inscription. This is a small to medium sized tree with a dense, oval to round form branching quite low. It is one of the first trees to leaf out in the spring. Indians named the fruit of this tree "buckeye" because it is dark brown with a large gray spot that resembles the eye of a buck. The wood can be used for furniture, boxes, flooring and musical instruments.
