1940 — Bill France Sr and Joe Littlejohn Finish 1-2 at Daytona. In July 1940. a straight-eight Buick Century coupe driven by NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. led a 1-2 Buick finish, leading the field by more than a lap at the AAA-sanctioned race at Daytona. The win spurred competitors to push for rule changes that would exclude the powerful Buicks from future competition.

1955 — Zora Arkus-Duntov breaks the 150 MPH Barrier. Chief Engineer and father of the Corvette drove the first NASCAR-sanctioned vehicle, a ’55 Corvette prototype, to a two way average speed of 150.583 mph.
