Inscription.
The building standing on the other side of the Morris Canal Big Basin is the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal. Built in 1889, the complex represented the greatest concentration of rail facilities in the New York Harbor area during that time period.

Ellis Island, which is located only hundreds of yards offshore from the CRRNJ Terminal, opened in 1892. Of the 12 million immigrants who were processed through the Island from its opening till its closing in 1954, approximately two thirds or eight million immigrants, went to their new homes, via the CRRNJ Terminal.

The Statue of Liberty has been greeting newcomers since 1886. Internationally recognized as the symbol of freedom, she has overseen masses of immigrants seeking a new life in a new land.
