1. Dr. George L. Baber Marker
Inscription. Georgia native George Baber was a well-respected Physician and Civic leader. His family moved here to Winnsboro in 1895, and after graduating from Emory University in 1906, he returned and served his hometown with distinction. He was a member of State and National Medical Associations, and from 1911-1915, of the State Board of Medical Examiners. In Winnsboro, at this house, he practiced general medicine and surgery. He opened a hospital in 1917 and served as City and County Health Officer. In 1917 he married Charlie Ashberry (1883-1979), a talented pianist and actress. The couple was fondley remembered for their philanthropy and leadership.
