Welcome to Beluthahatchee Park
"A place where all unpleasantness is forgiven and forgotten."
Beluthahatchee, which means "a place where all unpleasantness is forgiven and forgotten" offers unique cultural, educational, environmental, and musical programs to the public. This four-acre park was acquired in 2005 with Florida Forever Funds through a Florida Communities Trust Grant and is managed and maintained by St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department. Beluthahatchee was originally the home of the late Stetson Kennedy, an author, environmentalist, human rights activist, and folklorist. The land has a history dating back to 1945 when its original purpose was to serve as a 70-acre sustainable community. Over the years, portions of the land were sold to individual residents leaving the county with the four-acre parcel you stand on today. Most notably, this park served as the site where Kennedy's good friend, Woody Guthrie, wrote the final draft of his autobiography, Seeds of Man, as well as more than 80 songs during his visits. Beluthahatchee is recognized by Friends of Libraries USA as a twice-designated Literary Landmark.
Erected by St. Johns County Parks.
