1. Recreational Boating on the Delaware Marker
Inscription.
Recreational boating has been a popular pastime on the Delaware since the early 1900s. People still take to the river in watercraft ranging from canoes and rowboats to motorboats, sailboats and yachts. Boating groups—some of which formed nearly a century ago—host annual races, regattas, cruises, picnics and educational programs for boaters.

The river is home to dozens of yacht clubs representing thousands of recreational boaters.

[Caption:]
While ferries no longer cross the Delaware, recreational boaters still test their skills in races on the river.
