Inscription. Members of Co. B, 44th Ill. Infantry who fell at the Battle of Stone River, Dec. 31, 1862, while bravely fighting to uphold the Constitution and government of the United States. Erected by the surviving members of the co. as a token of their friendship and esteem for the deceased.
