In WW II, his combat war patrols were with distinguished legends such as George L. Street, III and Edward L. Beach, Jr. Admiral Dietzen served his nation during WW II, Korea, Vietnam and the Cold War. He was chosen to attend the Navy's first Nuclear Power Plant School. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for having contributed directly to the expansion submarine program. He served as Chief of the Navy's Military Mission for Aid to Turkey and was the Deep Submergence Systems Program Coordinator.
