1. Hopewell Mound Group Marker
Inscription.
This ceremonial center includes an earthwork enclosing more than 120 acres and 35 mounds. The site has given its name to the Hopewell Culture, which flourished from 200 BC to A.D. 500.
Preservation of this site was made possible by the cooperation of Richard P. and Marjorie Johnson and their son Richard P. Johnson, Jr. The site is now dedicated as a permanent Archaeological Preserve and to listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
