F-105D Thunderchief
No. 61-0073 USAF Fighter-bomber
The F-105 Thunderchief was the last airplane produced by Republic Aviation before it became part of Fairchild Hiller. The Thunderchief was originally a private-venture study as a follow-on to the F-84F. Intended as a fighter-bomber, it served a secondary role as an interceptor. The first prototype flew on October 22, 1955. The F-105, or "Thud" as it was called, served as the primary attack aircraft in the Vietnam War, where over half of the total production run of over 800 aircraft were lost.
This F-105 Thunderchief was built by Republic Aviation in Farmingdale in New York and was delivered on January 29, 1962. It was retired from active service in November 1981. The markings represent the 23rd TFW at McConnell AFB.

SM-78 Jupiter
Army Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM)
The Jupiter was a surface-to-surface intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM) designed by the Army's Ballistic Missile Agency. It had a range of 1,500 miles carrying a 1.5 megaton nuclear warhead. In 1957 and 1958 the U.S. deployed these missiles in Italy and Turkey. In response, the Soviet Union deployed similar missiles in Cuba... inciting the famed Cuban Missile Crisis. The U.S. removed the missiles in 1963.
Built by the Chrysler Corporation and powered by a Rocketdyne liquid-fueled engine developing approximately 150,000 lbs. of thrust, Jupiter attained a velocity of 10,000 mph and reached altitudes up to 300 miles. It is 8 feet, 9 inches in diameter and weighs 110,000 lbs. The Jupiter was adapted to serve as a space launch vehicle for NASA - launching Pioneer and Explorer spacecraft in the late 1950s.
