Valencia in Santa Clarita in Los Angeles County, California — The American West (Pacific Coastal)
Apology
On July 13, 2021, Los Angeles County representatives put forward a motion apologizing for the "historical mistreatment" of the First Peoples of present-day LA County. While it is necessary for those who sought to displace and eradicate Indigenous communities to account for the long, painful history of colonization, words alone will not address the pronounced disparities and intergenerational trauma associated with the loss of life and land. In 2023, a 38-page report was published on the past, present, and ongoing Harms against local Tribes by the County.
