1. Chickamauga Black Maple Marker, Side One

Inscription. The Chickamauga Black Maple shades the Civil War battlefield in Georgia where Union and Confederate forces fought on September 19 and 20, 1863. Union troops won the battle setting the stage for General William Sherman's famous march to Atlanta.

The black maple, also known as "hard" or "rock maple," is closely related to the sugar maple. Sap can be tapped for the production of maple syrup and sugar.
