On any hot New England summer day, many Rhode Islanders could be found eagerly standing in line for a day pass to the inground pool. Not only was this pool a summertime favorite, but it was unique because it was filled using the salt water from Narragansett Bay. The original pool was built in the early 1930s, but was destroyed by the Hurricane of 1938. A new, Olympic-sized pool was built in the same location. The pool was 12 feet deep in the center and featured three diving boards, two slides, and a bathhouse.
Fun fact: The 1936 U.S. Olympic Men's swimming trials were held at this pool
