In Recognition of the People Who Have Inhabited this Region for Thousands of Years.

Ilchee Moon Girl

History says she was born along the Columbia River about 1800, daughter of Chinook Chief Concomley and, later, wife of Chief Casinos leader in Vancouver area.

Lore tells us she had the power of a Shaman and that she paddled her own canoe, the sign of a chief.

By both accounts she was remarkable.

1905 design resulted from a cooperative effort between the City of Vancouver and Columbia Cascade Company, an internationally renowned local manufacturer of outdoor furnishings.

Using recycled cast iron, the style reflects the American Craftsman period. During that era, Vancouver's Esther Short Park was developed as a public square and illuminated with the decorative "Sheperd's Hook" light fixtures used throughout this project.
