1840 |
1848 | This dam is 8 ft tall, 165 ft long, 7 ft thick, on the other side is a levy that is 1/2 mile long, going upsteam. Another dam that is 7 ft tall and 65 ft long was built. This top dam and levies were built for high water, when it floods water goes over top dam and comes back into the main creek below the big dam. Stopping the mill from ever flooding.
1913 | In 1913, the great flood of the Miami Valley washed out this dam of logs and rocks. 1926 | The dam was rebuilt in 1926 of concrete. The concrete was mixed by hand in wheelborrows. Over 300 yards was mixed. (A yard of concrete is 3x3x3 cube)
2012 | Camp Vohakase (Matt Light Foundation) built this over look with help from friends of Bears Mill. Chenoneth Trails is located in Greenville, Ohio. This is a great group of young men and women who can change a community.
2013 | In 2013, this dam was rebuilt the foundation was eroded. So 70 yards was poured by 91 year-old Ross Clark and 65 year-old Terry Clark. It took three months working in water sometimes four feet deep, low water-no water coming over the dam. This dam and levies created a 9 acre body of water enough to grind in low water all year long.
