Excerpt (in translation): Originally, the new facility was intended to solve the magistrate's space problems, but there was no room for more than the police, the district court and the prison. The police station opened in 1866. A four-storey prison building was erected inside the yard. As early as 1876, the entire house had to be built on three floors. Møllergata 19 was the main police station until the new police house in Grønlandsleiret was completed in 1978.(Submitted on July 23, 2024.)
A section of Oslo District Prison was housedin No. 19. During the war, the premises were taken over by the German security police, and many Norwegian patriots were imprisoned here.
The police station was built on the former Vaterland cemetery, laid out before 1638. It was outside the city limits and was a burial ground for the suburbs. Closed in 1811 and used as a storage site for the road service until 1862.
