Inscription.
Cabrini Woods is a small, narrow forest connected to other last remaining forested parklands along the Hudson River – Fort Washington Park, Fort Tryon Park, and Inwood Hill Park in Manhattan, along with Riverside Park in the Bronx,>

This area, which you can spot below you over the railing, was likely cleared when the Henry Hudson Parkway and the buildings on Cabrini Boulevard were built in the 1930s. We can assume this based on the 10 or so large oak trees located about two-thirds to the slope to the parkway. These trees are all roughly the same age and size, and their heights, large trunks, and open spreading canopies suggest that they originally grew out in the open – not in the shade of a forest – many years ago. Today, a grouping of smaller, younger trees has grown up around them>

Managing this area helps to unify different sections of New York City’s forest, improving an important pathway for migratory birds. NYC Parks, with the help of community members like you, plays an important role in removing invasive species and planting native trees, shrubs, and herbs. Together, we can help ensure that Cabrini Woods remains a beautiful, thriving habitat for years to come.

Caption: Did you know that red, white, black, and chestnut oak trees all grow here? Some of them have trunk diameters wider that 30 inches.
