Regarding Hollywood's Island Parks. Gross's Grossdale, Hollywood and West Grossdale subdivisions were incorporated as the village of Grossdale in 1893. Later the combined area was renamed Brookfield, in reference to its spot near Salt Creek.

"In 1987, the HCA and representatives from other communities sharing the Hollywood name defeated the effort of the mayor of Hollywood, California to copyright the name for its exclusive use. It was confirmed at that time that Hollywood, Illinois predates Hollywood, California and may be the inspiration for its name."

In this photo from the marker's rear, the Metra's BNSF railroad line can be seen about 600 feet away. The railway was the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad when Gross's subdivision was built in the 1890s.
