1. Fog Bell Marker
Inscription. A fog bell was placed approximately 1,300 feet northwest of the light tower during WWI. The bell was located next to a two story wooden "bell house" or tower which protected the clockworks from the weather.

This picture is of a serviceman sitting on the fog bell in 1943. The bell tower was seriously rusted.

The original location of the bell is now underwater and on a clear, calm day a dark shadow of the location can be seen as a boat passes over the spot.

Location. 27° 36.137′ N, 82° 45.643′ W. Marker is in St. Petersburg, Florida, in Hillsborough County. It can be reached from Anderson Boulevard (Florida Route 679) 1½ miles west of Pinellas Bayway South, on the left when traveling west. The marker is located on Egmont Key National Wildlife Refuge and State Park and can only be reached by boat or ferry. The ferry departs from the bay pier within Fort De Soto Park. Touch for map.
