1. "Mat-Su Giants" Marker

Inscription.

Most record-setting vegetables are judged by their weight. But what does a world-record cabbage or carrot look like?

This sculpture features life-sized replicas of the cabbage, beet, zucchini and carrot grown in the Matanuska Valley in 2009 that attained world-record weights. The carrot, which exhibited numerous branches from the main root, weighed 18.99 lbs. The zucchini weighed 29.6 5 lbs., & the beet root was 4.2.75 lbs. The cabbage weighed 127 lbs., and that size has since been surpassed in more recent years.

This display represents all the other extraordinary record-setting vegetables produced here in the Matanuska Valley and is dedicated to the farmers who combine the Valley's abundant daylight and fertile soils with their individual horticultural skills to grow them.

Examples of many kinds of vegetables produced commercially in the Valley may be seen here throughout the Palmer Showcase Garden during the growing season.
