A Notable Resting Place

Baylor Potter's Field
Baylor Potter's Field is the burial place of indigent Delawareans who passed away without family or resources for private burial. Since 1979, they have been laid to rest in individual graves with small numbered stones as reference markers. The largest of Delaware's potter's fields, Baylor Potter's Field is the responsibility of Delaware Health and Social Services.
Red-winged Blackbird
The red-winged blackbird is one of Delaware's most recognizable birds. The males boast bright red and yellow shoulder patches that they can puff up or hide depending on how confident they feel. Perched atop telephone wires or cattails and belting out their songs, males do everything they can to get noticed. Females stay lower, quietly foraging for food and weaving their cup-shaped grass nests. Red winged blackbinds are most commonly found in marshes and swamps, but can also be found in fields and meadows.
Blue Flag Iris
Blue Flag Iris (Iris versicolor) is a species of Iris native to North America commonly found in marshes and along stream banks and shores. It gets its name "versicolor" from the Greek word-for rainbow because of the very dramatic, prismatic colors of the species. Its petals spread out flat, making it an attractive place for hummingbirds to feed.
