These are just a few of the things that make the Alpine Historical Park a popular stop for travelers along the Glenn Highway National Scenic Byway.

Athabascan Culture, Coal Mining, and Glenn Highway Construction

Wind and Water
Powerful natural forces carved the Matanuska Valley and continue to sculpt and re-sculpt this corridor. The loess-rich soils, fossils, petrified wood, and coal testify to the areas natural history and captivate travelers.

Park Features

The original "Old Timers Hall of Fame" is located in the Mary Geist House, and the first Sutton Post Office is next door. Pictorial exhibit of Ahtna Athab[a]scan culture, coal mining and Glenn Highway construction are displayed in the Bunk House. The mining/road construction Powder House lies adjacent to the washery foundation.
