1. Bullhead Camp Cemetery Marker
Inscription. During the construction of the James Reese Career and Technical Center in 2018, this once unmarked burial site was unearthed. In total, the remains of 95 individuals were laid to rest in this cemetery. Research has revealed that the burials are those of African American citizens who were incarcerated, then leased to a local plantation to provide labor through the state-sanctioned convict leasing system, following the national abolition of slavery in 1865. It is believed that this cemetery was used between 1879-1911, associated with various labor camps including J.A. Freeman Camp, L.A. Ellis Camp #2, L.A. Ellis Camp #1, and Imperial Farm Camp, TX #1.

Fort Bend ISD is commited to honoring and remembering the Sugar Land 95.
