1. Buggies, Plows & Tractors Marker

Inscription.

This was a booming distribution center for John Deere farm equipment, run by Deere's grandson, Charles C. Webber. With settlers moving north and west at the time, this facility helped distribute the buggies, plows, sleds and tractors they needed, to break the prairie soil.

With trains pulling up right behind the building, it set a shipping record for this region in its first year when a half-mile long train packed with buggies and wagons arrived here from the Deere factory in Moline, Illinois.

Designed by architects Kees & Colburn, this distinctive building has a Louis Sullivanesque arched entry with terra cotta ornaments including two deer heads. The adjoining nine-story addition was built in 1910.
