Inscription.
Harry Pearle Ijams lived on this site from 1910 until his death in 1954.

Other than his wife, Alice, and four daughters: Elizabeth, Jo, Martha and Mary, his great passion in life was bird study.

H.P. was one of the founding members and first president of the local bird club, the Knoxville Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society. The group met here monthly for years.

H.P. also kept detailed notes of the nesting birds around his home. In the backyard is his hand drawn map from 1923.

We invite you to follow this paved trail and look for other H.P. Ijams Bird Nest signs.

Ijams is a state of mind. A place where you learn to care for the Earth for your whole life.
