Clay Street Cemetery
Established November 10, 1903
after the discovery of gold in the Tanana Valley in 1902. This
location, originally identified as the Fairbanks Cemetery, was
later renamed Clay Street Cemetery after the adjacent street.
The first burial occurred in 1903, with nearly 1600 burials in the
years following. With some exceptions, the cemetery was
officially closed in 1938. Clay Street Cemetery was entered on
the National Historic Register in 1982.
