Inscription.
Icelandic settlers organized their first congregation in 1879. The number of Icelandic homesteads in Lincoln County never exceeded 55, and 32 charter members signed the constitution. The annual dues of 50 cents was payable in two installments. The stated purposes of organization were: 1) to uphold their Lutheran faith and the purity of the Icelandic language, 2) to further cultural advancement, 3) to establish an enclosed cemetery plot, and 4) to help maintain the health and welfare of their Icelandic community. The first church was built in 1899. The original church burned to the ground in 1922, and another church building was built in 1925. That church was moved to the Lincoln County Museum at Hendricks in 1994.
