1. Little Youghiogheny River Marker
Inscription.
When the B&O Railroad was completed in this area, the course of the Little Youghiogheny River was diverted to allow for the building of one bridge rather than two. The wet land immediately in front of where you are standing is the original course of the "Little Yough."

The bridge was a Fink Truss Suspension Bridge as shown in the picture.

At the time of the Jones-Imboden Raid, the bridge was burned by the Confederate Raiders. In the meantime, the Confederates commandeered a B&O locomotive in Altamont. After firing up the boiler, they abandoned the engine. The runaway locomotive stopped on the edge of the burned bridge!

The bridge was rebuilt in 5 days by the work crews of the B&O.
