Milli Bau
1996 wurde Milli Bau mit der Bronzenen Verdienstplakette der Wissenschaftsstadt Darmstadt ausgezeichnet. Teile ihres Nachlasses befinden sich im Weltkulturen Museum in Frankfurt/M., in der Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Darmstadt und im Stadtarchiv.
The journalist, photographer and translator Emilia (Milli) Bau (née Wissmann) was born in this house on July 29, 1906. From 1949 to 1952 she was the only woman to take part in the "German Andean Expedition" in Bolivia. From January 1956 to 1959 she traveled along the Silk Road in a converted VW bus, which she documented in numerous photos and reports for newspapers and radio stations. From 1967 she spent several years in Iran and reported on developments in this country for German media. From October 1973 until her death on October 31, 2005 she lived in Darmstadt.
In 1996, Milli Bau was awarded the Bronze Medal of Merit of the Science City of Darmstadt. Parts of her estate are located in the Museum of World Cultures in Frankfurt/M., in the University and State Library of Darmstadt and in the city archives.

Darmstadt - The city has placed a memorial plaque on the facade of the house at Dreibrunnenstrasse 8, where the journalist, photographer and translator Emilie (Milli) Bau was born on July 29, 1906.(Submitted on September 17, 2024.)
At the unveiling of the plaque, which was carried out by Mayor Hanno Benz (SPD) with city archivist Peter Engels, Benz described Milli Bau as a "highly exciting personality". The house where she was born was "the starting point for her irrepressible desire to travel" and her "international life".
