Roxbury in Boston in Suffolk County, Massachusetts — The American Northeast (New England)
Roxbury Begins Here!
Welcome to Roxbury Heritage State Park
For thousands of years, this neighborhood was home to seasonal camps for indigenous people. In more recent history it was the site of a pious Puritan village, a Revolutionary War stronghold, a Victorian suburban community, a welcoming place for immigrant factory workers, a center for social activism, and a hub for Black culture in Boston. Today Roxbury is a bustling and diverse neighborhood with a reputation for community pride.
Located on an outcropping of puddingstone in the geographic heart of Boston, Roxbury Heritage State Park shares the story of the resiliency of the community that surrounds it. Explore one of the oldest homes in the city, the Dillaway-Thomas House, and learn about its history and its ongoing links to this pale, the people, and the spirit of Roxbury.
