More about this marker. The base of the memorial includes a list of roughly 200 pioneers and families who first settled in Naperville. The dedication inscription is at the center of the memorial's street-facing side; an antique plow is embedded in the top of the memorial. Some news reports refer to this memorial as the "Farm Families Monument."
The memorial was dedicated in the 1980s, although an exact date could not be immediately determined. News reports about the memorial credit local resident Wilbert Hageman with spearheading efforts to honor Naperville's early farm families with this memorial. Hageman was born on a farm in Naperville, attended Naperville High School (now Naperville Central) and spent the rest of his life as a prominent agricultural leader in DuPage County. He died in 2024 at age 93.

4. Quarry Lake
This photo of Quarry Lake and, in the distance, the Millennium Carillon is taken from the spot of the Farmers Monument. The land here was an active limestone quarry from 1833, when early settler George Martin started digging for it, until 1913.
