Water Street: Main Street in Excelsior was named Water Street because often during the 1800s, a small stream ran along side it from Galpin Lake, then much larger, into Lake Minnetonka.

Water Street today is the point of origin of many activities in Excelsior. It leads everyone to its beautiful shoreline, while its main docks welcome visitors as they disembark their personal watercraft or one of the many exciting charter boats. A tradition enjoyed for almost 160 years.

A Dream: Excelsior, once the dream of a tailor from New York, has become the dream of the many. The dream we all share is one of living a legacy handed down by the adventuresome people from our past who had the vision to build a lasting community that would thrive for years to come.

This Excelsior community embraces a unique quality of life because of its values. The schools, churches, businesses and the residents all share these values and have shaped a community with a spirit that is far greater than our forefathers may ever have imagined possible. Excelsior is a special place where many enjoy working, boating, dining our or listening to music while others experience shopping for art, antiques, home decor, clothing and much more. And you can still stroll along one of the most peaceful and delightful shorelines imaginable while taking in the beauty of Lake Minnetonka.

We sincerely appreciate you, our guest, our neighbor, our friend, and what you bring to this community. We hope you will enjoy what we can share with you, time and time again.

Excelsior is all about people. Those who live and work here and those who visit us.
