1. Ecor Rouge Marker
Inscription. Near here at junction of Rock Creek and Mobile Bay lies Ecor Rouge, highest coastline point between Maine and Mexico. Aboriginal Indians held powwows and made pottery here. The red cliff, a mariners' landmark on Spanish maps of 1500's, called Ecor Rouge by French settlers in 1700's, was used for a British hospital camp in 1771. Brick were made here in 1818 for re-building Fort Morgan.
