Jardin Marie Trintignant (1933)
En 2006, le square de l'Ave Maria est rebaptisé en hommage à l'actrice française Marie Trintignant (1962-2003).
In 1872, a covered market was built on land belonging to the city. As early as 1919, the project of demolishing the market was mentioned when it was already partially disused and converted into offices and workshops. The demolition was decided in 1927, but it was not until 1933 that the Ave Maria Square, named after the neighboring street, appeared. Inspired by Renaissance orchards, fig trees and flowering cherry trees were planted during its redevelopment in 2006. From this lush green lot, you can admire the entrance facade of the Hôtel de Sens, a medieval mansion built between 1475 and 1519, on the orders of Tristan de Salazar, archbishop of Sens. It now houses the Forney library, a heritage and specialist library of the City of Paris, dedicated to decorative arts, crafts and their techniques, fine arts and graphic arts.
In 2006, Ave Maria Square was renamed in honor of the French actress Marie Trintignant (1962-2003).
